A SUBSTITUTE teacher allegedly had sex with multiple students – and bribed them to stay quiet with $100 payments, drugs, and alcohol.
Carissa Jane Smith, 30, was arrested on Tuesday and charged with 19 crimes including rape, sodomy, sex trafficking of a child, and sexual contact and misconduct with a student.
Smith was a paraprofessional and long-time substitute teacher in the Dixon School District in Missouri, about 130 miles southwest of St. Louis, before her arrest.
She’s accused of having sex with at least two students.
One victim told police that it all started in August 2023, when he was in middle school.
The child said he met Smith while she was substituting for his class and she gave students her Snapchat username, according to police documents obtained by NBC affiliate KYTV.

The child said he met Smith while she was substituting for his class and she gave students her Snapchat username, according to police documents obtained by NBC affiliate KYTV.
“Smith began sending them pictures of her breasts and buttocks, along with her nude in the shower,” court documents stated.
Cops say she had sex with the students at her home and other locations, including gravel roads, multiple times over the course of a year.
She allegedly gave the students money, alcohol, and marijuana and told them to keep their mouths shut or they’d get in trouble.
In one incident, Smith allegedly smoked marijuana with a student and her friend, a former school nurse for the school district.
The victim reported that Smith then took him to McDonald’s because her husband was at home with their kids, court docs said.
In another alleged sexual encounter, a student asked Smith to stop but she refused – then gave him extra money after.
The Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office said Smith could face more charges if additional victims come forward.
Investigators said the incidents happened from August 2023 to September 2024.
She was a paraprofessional at the district’s high school the following year.
She was hired as a long-term sub at the high school in July but resigned on August 30.
Smith is no longer employed by the school district.
In a statement, Dixon School District said news of Smith’s alleged crimes was “disturbing and distressing.”
The former sub face eight counts of statutory rape, one count of statutory sodomy, three counts of sexual contact with a student, two counts of sexual misconduct with a student, two counts of sexual trafficking of a child, two counts of hindering prosecution, and one count of patronizing prostitution.
It wasn’t immediately clear if she’d entered a plea yet and she’s currently in jail on a $250,000 bond.
