A former Akron police officer was sentenced to 13-17 years in prison after pleading guilty to multiple charges of pandering obscenity involving a minor.
The Stark County Prosecutor’s Office said Mikel Dillon pled guilty to a bill of information, which included the following:
- 6 counts of pandering obscenity involving a minor
- 1 count of sexual battery
The Akron Police Department told 3News that Dillon was terminated immediately after he pled guilty. Dillon will also have to register as a Tier 3 sex offender for the rest of his life.
3News previously reported that Dillon was arrested by the Canton Police Department on Feb. 14 after being charged with 21 felony counts of pandering obscenity involving a minor.
At the time, Dillon had been working for the Akron Police Department for around 15 months. He was immediately placed on administrative leave with pay, per department procedure.
Following the charges, Akron Police Chief Steve Mylett released the following statement.
“I am beyond shocked by these charges against one of our employees. This alleged behavior is disgusting. Any person found to have engaged in this kind of behavior should be held accountable to the extent the law allows. I am confident the legal process will reveal the truth, either way, and justice will be served.”
